When Alcoa decided to move from their 1950’s era headquarters in downtown Pittsburgh, they chose a riverfront site as part of the City’s waterfront revival. Deciding on a building type which has become known as a “ground-scraper”, the design is focused not on height, but on interaction between staff on less floors with more floor area. The vertical and mechanical support is located in the northern section which connects to the open office space across a series of bridges, allowing for a vast open office space with captivating views of the river and city.
